My name is John Kotuby, and I am the Founder, Creator and Publisher of this Website.
My passion is sport fishing. I have been fishing for over 60 years, so you know that I’m the classic “old-timer”. And because I’ve fished for that long and caught many different types of fish, I have gained quite a bit of fishing knowledge that I would like to share with you.
My early beginnings at Lake Bomoseen and my bond with fishing
I spent my childhood summers growing up on Lake Bomoseen in Vermont along with cousins and family friends. Those were wonderous years indeed. The Lake is spring-fed, cold clear water, up to 75 feet deep, that holds a multitude of large healthy fish, because it has a good forage base of shiners and smelt. I have an 11 lb. Brown Trout from that lake on my wall.
It was at Lake Bomoseen that I learned to fish at the age of 3. The canal behind our cottage is full of small Bluegills and Perch. At that early age, even catching small fish was a thrill. I later found out that the shallow protected waters of the canal made for a great spawning ground for many of the species found in the lake. Occasionally I would catch a juvenile Largemouth Bass. On light “kiddie” fishing tackle that made for an exciting fight.
As I got older, I learned how to catch bigger Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass from a boat. In the deeper waters Yellow Perch, Northern Pike and fat Brown Trout also make their home there.
